Locals who love their oysters and fresh seafood know that Dawson’s Oyster Supplies have been a tradition in the Lake Macquarie area since 1964. We take pride in our history and our commitment to providing the finest oysters and seafood with a smile. Over the years, we've evolved, staying true to our roots while embracing changing seas.
A Legacy of Freshness
Dawson’s Oyster Supplies began as a family endeavour in 1964, spearheaded by Malcolm and Julia Dawson. Initially, we supplied local restaurants with fresh oysters, and in 1980, we expanded to include a retail outlet in Warners Bay, serving our community directly. For nearly five decades, the Dawson family nurtured and enriched this local business.
In 2021, new local owners - Hannah, Thelma, and Louise - took the helm, infused with a deep-rooted passion for seafood and an extensive background in the commercial marine industry. Even as the ownership changed, the Dawson family remains integral to our day-to-day operations.
World Oyster Opening Champion
Did you know?
One of our employees, Brett Dawson, is a World Oyster Opening Champion.
Brett is the only Australian to have ever won the World Championships in Galway Bay, Ireland. Brett won in 1981 and 1982!
A Fresh Start
A Retail Store Reimagined
In 2021, we seized the opportunity to transform our retail space. With immense effort and love from family and friends, we revitalized the shop, creating a welcoming, modern, and clutter-free environment for our cherished customers and dedicated staff.
A Fresh New Brand + Products
That same year, we worked with local business Design Bug to re-brand Dawson's and create a new logo.
Alongside our new branding, we introduced a range of products to complement our fresh seafood selection. From condiments and sauces to books, gifts, and an expanded seafood range, there's something new for every seafood lover.
Online Ordering + Home Delivery
In 2024 we launched our online ordering and home delivery platform where you can now shop freshly shucked oysters, fresh fish fillets, prawns, frozen seafood, seafood platters and more.
We offer free home delivery to homes across Newcastle and Lake Macquarie on orders over $50, six days a week. Place your order online by 4pm for next-day delivery, or select in-store pickup and collect during our shop hours.

Oyster Event Catering
In 2025 we launched the event catering arm of Dawson's - Shuck Yeah!
We create oyster experiences with our oyster bar and mobile oyster carts for weddings, corporate events and milestone celebrations across Newcastle, the Hunter Valley, Central Coast and beyond.
Outdoor Seating
In 2025, we also worked with Lake Macquarie City Council to introduce outdoor seating at our Warners Bay store.
You can now enjoy oysters, prawns, sashimi, crabs and cold drinks at our outdoor tables, with a glimpse of the lake.
