Our love for seafood spans 50 years
Lake Macquarie locals who love their oysters know that Dawson’s Oyster Supplies have been a tradition in the Lake Macquarie area since 1964 when it was first established by the original owners, the Dawson family. The Dawson’s supplied local restaurants with fresh oysters and in 1980 opened their retail outlet in Warners Bay to sell direct to the consumer. Fast forward almost 40 years and this much-loved local family business at 67 king St, Warners Bay has had a total refresh with new owners, new branding and a shop fitout.
In 2021, the Dawson family sold the business to new local owners: Hannah, Thelma and Louise. All women have long-standing relationships in the fishing industry through their commercial marine backgrounds and a huge passion for seafood. The Dawson family are still involved day-to-day, working alongside Hannah, Thelma and Lou.

For quality seafood, trust Dawson’s
Why choose us over any other seafood retailer?
Here are just some of the reasons businesses and customers buy from us again and again.
Friendly, expert service
At Dawson’s Oyster Supplies, exceptional customer service is our hallmark. Our enthusiastic staff, all seafood aficionados, are dedicated to assisting you. Whether you have inquiries about our products, need cooking tips, or want recipe recommendations, we're here to help.
Locally grown and sourced
We prioritize sourcing our products locally to ensure freshness and support for local businesses, so our customers can do the same.
We've established strong relationships with oyster growers and family-run enterprises, enabling us to bring you the best from the Hunter region and beyond.

Eco and sustainably concious
We love seafood, but we don’t want empty oceans. Sustainability is always at the forefront of our business practices and we try not to use the word flippantly like it sometimes is.
We purchase as much local produce as possible, reducing the need for transport and lessening the human resources used. When we can’t buy local, we always buy from reputable fisheries that are MSC certified. You can read more about MSC blue tick here. When you’re next in store, feel free to ask us about our sustainably caught Spencer Gulf King Prawns or our GoodFish product range.
We have switched to PET plastic oyster trays in place of disposable foam trays commonly used in the industry. Our plastic trays are fully recyclable and can be put in your home recycling bin. We also offer a discount if you return your clean PET oyster trays to reduce our purchasing of this resource.
As a prominent post-harvest seafood processing business, we support an industry and a product that has numerous positive environmental impacts. You can read about oyster farming and the environment in one of our recent blogs.
Clean, safe and compliant
As Lake Macquarie and Newcastle's only local oyster processing facility, we work under a strict set of requirements outlined by the Food Authority.
These requirements include licencing, food storage, safety, processing, labelling and clean and fit for purpose premises, all of which we adhere to and are frequently audited on. This means you can rest assured that what ends up on your plate is perfectly prepared, risk-free and delicious.
You can access the full list of requirements outlined by the NSW Government for all seafood retailers and processors here.
